ABSTRACT

Recently, a lot of interest has been centered on the linear and nonlinear optical properties (NLO) of layered nanomaterials such as graphene, graphene oxide, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), etc. In this chapter, various techniques of measurements of linear and nonlinear optical properties of layered nanomaterials, in particular, hBN and its applications in photonics, are discussed. In this chapter, we have also demonstrated the measurement of NLO properties of 2D h-BN nanosheets (BNNS) using the Z–scan technique. The NLO measurement revealed that BNNS has large two photon absorption cross sections (σ 2PA) and hence suitably for use in photonic devices.
