ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses fundamentals and applications of fluorescence and photoluminescence, which is one of the most important consequences of excitation and de-excitation processes occurring following absorption of light. Numerous photoexcited state processes which occur in the micro- to femto-seconds have been discussed with suitable examples. Moreover, emphases are given to the florescence quenching, energy transfer and charge transfer processes and their possible implications.
