ABSTRACT

Thoughts about the passage through adolescence from two major coming-of-age perspectives, the unambiguous rite of passage and the amorphous developmental drift into young adulthood, are discussed. Arnett’s “emerging adulthood” developmental concept in contrast to Erikson’s “psychosocial moratorium” are compared. Finally, the Millennial generation is examined as the contemporary adolescent/young adult target group for this exposition and their formative impact on extending the adolescent phase.
