ABSTRACT

Courage is required and revered in all its manifestations, particularly in relation to burglary; burglars who are cheeky, burglars who can endure are admired. The reality is that burglars are very dependent and are very much at the mercy of their mother, their family as well as the supporters in the gang. The good life includes excitement as both pleasure in the form of off-duty relaxation, and pain in the form of the tension of the job of being a burglar, regulated by a man’s bottle to plan, initiate and execute events in such a way that he can manage. Rarity of pure ‘careers’ in burglary could be presumed to reduce the difficulty of shifting. However, any burglar can lay claim to being a skilled one, or can attempt to pass himself off as one and so enhance his status and increase the respect he gets from others.
