ABSTRACT

You are seeing an 8-year-old female in your clinic with a history of an anorectal malformation. She was managed at a referring facility and the records are not available. She appears socially withdrawn, hiding behind her parents. During the visit, you learn she is fecally incontinent, wears a diaper, and takes a back pack to school with cleaning supplies, diapers, and a change of clothes. You have seen similar patients in your practice and are inspired to start a multidisciplinary colorectal and pelvic reconstruction program.
