ABSTRACT

The leadership team’s vision of what the school should be like is the basis for improvement, and this gives the direction needed to plan. A carefully worked-out programme of staff development may be exactly what the school needs to help improve areas identified in the self-evaluation form which are key to student outcomes. An outline figure can perhaps be proposed, but the actual costs are unlikely to be known until the work is well underway. The learning plan should be woven into the school calendar; it is a live document that helps drive many of the regular activities of leaders at all levels in the school. Learning walks and leaders’ observations always consider the learning plan key issues, and some of the continuing professional development sessions are devoted to sharing good practices arising from the various activities taking place across the school.
