ABSTRACT

Common threads exist across all areas of academic skills and anxiety. This chapter discusses specific anxiety disorders that impact academic skills, including generalized anxiety disorders, social anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and test anxiety. Each of these sections examines related research and what that research means for the teacher. Children experiencing anxiety often feel a loss of control in academic settings. Teaching tips and choice-based creative activities are provided to assist in reducing the impact of anxiety on academic skills.
