This chapter provides strategies to help teachers build relationships with students, provide structure and routine, support the needs of the students with a positive classroom management system, and plan appropriate classroom assignments. When a student becomes upset, the educator can utilize de-escalation strategies. Helpful hints to avoid power struggles are provided as well as supportive verbal strategies. Teaching tips include ways to structure the classroom environment to prevent potential problems.
