ABSTRACT

This chapter sets out the positive impact of increasing the number of men in the early years workforce; it explores ways that children, the workforce and wider society would benefit from such a situation. It considers initiatives that have focused on attracting more men, reflecting on how successful, and also how inclusive, they have been. The chapter examines the notion that, although there has been a movement of women into traditionally male workplaces, there has been limited movement in the opposite direction. It also compares the early years workforce with other traditionally gendered workforces, such as nursing, to see if parallels can be drawn.
