ABSTRACT
This chapter closes the volume with a few reflections on the development of Calcutta. It explores why the urbanization of Calcutta was essentially a phenomenon of the nineteenth century, while the eighteenth-century career was one of mixed developments. Its growth was one of a phased out development concentrated on its improving facilities for its first citizens.
