ABSTRACT

A 65-year-old man attended his GP surgery for a routine clinical review. He had been feeling well and had not experienced any recent illnesses. His past medical history included type 2 diabetes mellitus, which the patient had been attempting to control with dietary and other lifestyle modifications over the preceding 6 months, and hypertension. His regular medications were ramipril 5 mg OD and amlodipine 5 mg OD. He had no known drug allergies. He worked as a window cleaner, drank 20 units of alcohol weekly and was a current smoker of 10 cigarettes daily.
