ABSTRACT

The idea that project management is just the management of things to deliver specific goals and meet specific success criteria at the specified time are drifting off into the sunset. There are many methodologies and associated processes on project management, which have all served a purpose and really helped project teams deliver big changes, but these models and definitions have been developed largely to deal with stable, controlled and understood environments, where the expectation is detailed through firm requirements and deliverables. Project management is about doing stuff. It is about change. It is about being not only responsive but also proactive. From the project organisation’s perspective, and self-interest, the world is changing and that is uncomfortable for the organisation’s ‘business’ model. The trends of project management almost require different owners. Tribes are created within project management, like every other part of business life.
