ABSTRACT

This chapter presents comprehensive study skills. The author presents these skills to high school counselors as teaching tools for students with learning disabilities. Students with learning disabilities may not have intact study skills, and although they may find success in high school, the lack of these skills may have an impact on college success later on. School counselors are frequently the best options for teaching these study skills, but they may not be knowledgeable about many of them. This chapter presents an overview of different types of study skills such as mnemonic devices, organizational skills, time management, goal planning and metacognitive skills. The chapter ends with a case study for counselors to get a clearer image of their role in teaching these skills.
