ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book compares data drawn from corpora of translated text and corpora of non-translated texts. It provides comparison of mediated and non-mediated corpus data but focuses on simultaneous interpreting instead of translation. The book discusses how problematic the production of particular items in the target text is for translators and post-editors. It describes comparison between interlingual and intralingual translation. The book analyses language service providers’ perceptions of the quality of post-editing. It focuses on word order in the source language and its impact on the interpreting and translation process, respectively. The book also discusses scrutinises differences between professional translators and novice translators. It looks into the effects of transitional probability on prediction during language processing in shadowing and simultaneous interpreting tasks.
