ABSTRACT
Certain teachers who read the first draft of this book told me that I ought to ‘come clean’ about my own moral and religious beliefs, on the grounds that any work of this sort is bound to be biased by the author’s own point of view. (Some of them guessed that I was a soul-searching Anglican, others that I was a communistic atheist.)
