ABSTRACT

Mr. Charles Dutton address was prefaced by a brief account of the United States Industrial Commission, upon some of the sessions of which he had been in attendance a short time since. Consideration was also given to steps that might be taken by the present generation of accountants to help young men, accountants’ assistants and others, to qualify for the C. P. A. examination. The Illinois Institute of Accountants was incorporated in 1896, and in the interval since that date has passed through varied experiences with more or less prosperity. L. L. Abbott, president of the Institute, and J. B. Chamberlain, chairman of the board of directors, have been especially active in arranging meetings, and adding new names to the membership list. At the September meeting J. Hoefman, of the accounting department of the Republic Iron and Steel Company, gave the Institute an Impromptu talk on accounting matters.
