ABSTRACT

The Indian-English writer (IEW) has been often accused of pandering stories to Western readers. Is it still the case, when a new generation of Indian writers have emerged in the last decade due to India’s booming English publishing industry? Where is Indian-English writing today? Who does the IEW write for and what’s his audience? What is the relationship of the Indian-English writer with regional languages and how can we enrich ourselves from regional literary cultures? These are some of the questions I will try to explore in this chapter.
