ABSTRACT

There was a time, not very long ago, when a great deal of the literary production one could access, was mediated by a standard process of submissions to literary magazines, newspapers, and publishing houses. Idealized was the relationship between author and editor, one in which there was a bidirectional correspondence that led to the polishing of a manuscript and its subsequent publication. It seems curious that in many social circles people complain that no one reads anymore. The fear that reading is losing its place is probably derived from a perception that videogames, movie streaming, and other forms of entertainment are taking over. It is easy to discard fan fiction as unfinished, unpolished writing. After all, it is not subjected to the usual channels of approval and control that professional writing is. Fanfiction bridges the worlds of cartoons, literature, anime, manga, movies, and music.
