ABSTRACT

Patient care has different faces; it depends on whether the care is given in the hospital, in the clinic, or in the emergency room. Emergency room care is quite clear—the patient has an acute issue and needs a solution right then and there. Many administrators describe “throughput” as the time interval between a patient’s entry to the hospital and their discharge. Being patient-centered is the core value of medicine for many physicians. The physician should evaluate both the patients’ disease and their thoughts about the disease. The impact of the diseases on the patient’s daily functioning and their expectations of what should be assessed need to be investigated. A patient-centered approach should do more. The patients should be encouraged to participate more in the treatment plan to make them feel comfortable, so that they can interact more with the physician and get more understanding about their illness.
