ABSTRACT

A radiology unit must have a high-tech facility in order to continue to survive under pressure that it faces. The elimination of radiology units can be seen as a Lean step of its own because, if radiology devices are available in every unit or clinic, it will eliminate waste time. So far, many hospitals have radiology units, and it can be expected that 10 years in the future it will still be a central part of the hospital. Lean implementation in radiology units is generally directed at the reduction of waiting time waste. In addition, the Lean implementation is also done through the use of digital image filing systems, which resulted in an improved patient output of up to 20% and the reduction of time spent preparing reports by up to 30%. The establishment of a radiology unit network in a health system integrated vertically is capable of producing huge savings in equipment cost.
