ABSTRACT

One aspect of Just In Time (JIT) is that it is all about talking together and consulting people. In the analysis, JIT results in quality improvement increased productivity, lower costs, on-time deliveries, and improved motivation or morale, which comes back to the people aspect again. People are involved throughout — and this applies to any new approach. People are involved right through the whole of any technological advance — in the same way that the word "Blackpool" goes right through the stick of peppermint rock known as "Blackpool rock." But to do all that, management need to remember that the people who work for them are people. To reiterate, JIT is about skills, attitudes, styles, procedures, and all consultation. At the end of 1986, part of that was taken up with pilot courses that compared the alternatives as well as JIT philosophies.
