ABSTRACT

The emerging information culture that is accompanying computerization is a descendant of the culture of the scientific revolution that accompanied industrialization. As the culture of the information society develops, the norms of such scientific institutions are being carried along with computer systems into other institutional settings. In contrast to the professional culture of programmers or the institutional mainframe culture, the fullest expression of a popular computer culture is found in the roles of personal computer users. The role of magazines as a source of information and support in the computer culture is significant. Alongside the manufacturers, magazines and user groups help to support the atmosphere of optimism and excitement that sustains the computer culture. The computer is having an important impact in many spheres of artistic activity. Using traditional artistic technology, the production of artwork required considerable skill in materials preparation, drawing, handling of color, and finishing.
