ABSTRACT

The Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Contadora Group noted with satisfaction the hopeful fact that for the first time in the course of the present crisis, the Central American Ministers for Foreign Affairs had joined in a common effort to establish a dialogue. The ministers for foreign affairs of the Contadora Group reaffirmed that the responsibility for seeking agreements that will guarantee a stable and lasting peace rests mainly with the Central American countries themselves. The technical group will meet in Panama beginning on 14 June and will submit its recommendations to the third joint meeting of Foreign Ministers to be convened in due course by the Contadora Group. Pursuing diplomatic efforts in behalf of peace in Central America, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Venezuela, the members of the Contadora Group, met with their counterparts from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua on 28, 29 and 30 July.
