ABSTRACT

The Soviet system of power can only be understood properly with the help of certain theoretical criteria of a socio-historical nature. A closed society is one with built-in staying powers which enable it to endure for a very long period of time; it is a self-conserving society, in that any changes that occur are within-system changes that leave the basic structure of power untouched. Political parties must appeal and do appeal recklessly and demagogically to a people to whom they have not given decent leadership and proper political education, each party poses as "the party of peace" while the enemy chooses to continue to make war on us. A power which wishes to preserve peace and prevent an upsetting of the status quo by force is always at a disadvantage when dealing with a revolutionary power.
