ABSTRACT

"Joint working group meetings," represents the meetings in which United States (US) and Soviet members of a working group formulated and agreed on overall research objectives, reviewed activities that had taken place in each project area since the previous joint meeting, and developed plans for the following year. Joint symposia or meetings of individual project groups were often held in conjunction with the joint working group meetings. Cooperative activities under the Science and Technology (S&T) Agreement were carried out by the joint working groups, each responsible for a specific area of cooperation. The chapter provides a quantitative overview of US-Soviet cooperation in the eleven working groups under the S&T Agreement which were administered for the US side by the National Science Foundation. One quantitative measure of the scientific results of cooperative activities under the S&T Agreement is the number of publications that were produced.
