ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the early establishment of Sexual Offence Centers where examination, comprehensive care and follow-up can be carried out along with research into the many facets of sexual offence. Clothes from the genital and anal area should be taken as soon as a client has undressed. A vaginal speculum should be used to obtain high vaginal samples. Pubic and scalp hair is combed and plucked. The procedure for the examination of the male victim of a homosexual attack, and for the suspects in sexual offences, follow similar lines. The Police Surgeon may also complete a further Form when he feels the victim should be referred to his/her General Practitioner or to the hospital for pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted disease screening, and psychological assessment, follow-up and treatment. The Home Office sexual offence kit has been designed to provide in the hands of the skilled examiner the optimum amount of evidence for the investigating Police.
