ABSTRACT

A rape or sexual assault victim is, in addition to the human point of view, a part of the crime scene. The victims are received at a public hospital where he/she is treated by the appropriate physician. Treatment for sexual assault victims is now becoming standardized throughout Israel. The Israeli system for the treatment of sexual assault victims has been run for about four years. A sex crime differs from other crimes by the fact that the victim’s body is part of the scene of the crime, and some times it is even the only available source of evidence. The hospital must be able to provide psychological assistance to the victim as the need arises. The most common procedure is for the victim to file a complaint at the local police station which will then bring her to the hospital and the volunteer organisation.
