ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates a simple way to adapt a microspectrophotometer Docuspec TM/1 for recording emission luminescence spectra, and, the discriminating power of this technique in comparing small quantities of luminescent materials. A standard attachment for fluorescence work may be available from Olympus Corp. It also includes a high pressure mercury vapor arc lamp illumination, which provides much more power in the U.V. range than a quartz halogen lamp. The software of the Docuspec TM/1 dictates that the spectra of the sample in the transmission or reflectance mode can be measured only against a reference. The usual procedure for microspectrophotometry in the system is to measure a spectrum of a reference which is recorded on the chart as an intensity of light versus wavelength. The straightforward approach would be to apply the reflectance mode of the microspectrophotometer.
