ABSTRACT

Forgery is one of the major tools which international terrorists have used to spread their message and to enable their operations. This chapter discusses three uses of forgery: operational use such as forged identify documents, justification for the terrorist to react to an incident described in a forged document and psychological terror, where a forged document alleges an impending danger. A serious terrorist incident, such as the 30 May 1972 Japanese Red Army attack on Lod Airport’s passenger and baggage processing area, immediately gains headlines in the press. The need for forged documents is a paramount consideration for a terrorist organization and its support mechanism since it is a critical aspect in many phases of work. A more detailed look at the question of the forged passports which the Japanese received can give a better understanding to the entire matter of support.
