ABSTRACT

Why do we travel, and what do we like about it? It seems a silly question to ask: after all, we all know why we travel. But there are a lot of things which may appear obvious at first glance and later turn out not to be so obvious after all. Is travelling an instinctive type of behaviour, and if so, what kind of instinct inspires it? Do we enjoy travelling because it allows us to experience something new, and is it simply this newness that attracts us? And if so, is that not an odd kind of enjoyment?
