ABSTRACT

I am a prodigal parent. The Bible tells of the prodigal son, but my generation has turned the biblical story on its head. We inherited wealth and a competitive nation, and we leave debt and an economy that is a pale imitation of that which we inherited. For ten generations American mothers and fathers left a richer and more productive country to their children, but my generation broke the link of trust. Our parents saved; we spent Our parents invested; we divested.
