ABSTRACT

Most of the time since World War II the people of the nordic area have been able to cultivate their own gardens. After a few years of uncertainty, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland decided to solve their security problems by joining NATO. Sweden never deviated from its neutrality. With some difficulty, Finland managed to work out a modus vivendi with its powerful neighbor. For several decades, the nordic countries enjoyed the sunshine. In recent years, however, there has been a new climate. The nordic countries are once again having to look to their security policies.
