ABSTRACT

A strong, growing economy promotes a strong educational system, just as a strong educational system and a well-educated population are the sine qua non of a growing economy. The Milken Institute for Job & Capital Formation has been established to have a positive impact on job creation, on capital formation, on business development, and on economic growth in the United States. The Institute conducts and supports research and discourse on the levers of American economic growth. The increasingly global nature of economic activity and competition increases wealth on average, but it also expands income distribution because the ratio of skilled/educated workers to unskilled/less educated workers in the United States is higher than that ratio for the world economy. The measure of our economic well-being most closely examined in months has been the unemployment rate. The unemployment statistics deal only with people looking for jobs who cannot find them.
