If Dad had not died, leaving me a fatherless child, I probably would not have agreed to becoming double-dad, the father of two. If Susan had not witnessed the Grimes siblings working in concert after Dad's death, she might never have suggested that we have a second. These "if ... then" sequences are always psychological, never logical. They are not conclusions to be argued or proven but trajectories to be followed or refused.
