ABSTRACT

China is rich in mineral resources of non-ferrous metals—every known type is found there, and proven reserves of tungsten, tin, antimony, zinc, magnesium, titanium, tantalum, and rare earths are the most extensive in the world. In the fields of geology, mining, ore dressing, and metals processing, there have been great achievements in research, and important technological progress has been made in the non-ferrous metals industry. General and specific policies have been formulated in order to vigorously develop China's nonferrous metals industry. There are: management ideology, priorities for the development of nonferrous metals, production and construction, principles of administration, research and development and import and export trade. China lags far behind in its aluminum production capacity compared to the industrialized countries. Known before only as a country rich in nonferrous metals deposits, China is changing its image into that of a major nonferrous metals producer.
