ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the point by proposing an adaptive approach to the development of computer network systems. This approach will rely on the requirements of the applications to be supported by the network. The chapter presents a network design approach that results in network solutions that are fully integrated in the associated application. The evolution of computers and their wide acceptance in all fields has created a de facto distributed processing environment. The transmission of information within a network is controlled through a set of transmission rules that are predefined and consistent in any two communicating nodes. The distribution of computer processing over an organization is a task that greatly depends on the application to be supported. Human resources and facilities costs are other areas in which large reductions can be achieved. Most less complex computers have fewer operational and processing overhead costs, which results in faster responses.
