ABSTRACT
The story of the successful development of Gadot should be told in detail elsewhere, but a brief description is in order. The Arab village on which Gadot rests was captured by the Israeli Defence Forces in 1948. Gadot is administered by the town council which has eleven members who chair various committees that are responsible for utilities, local taxes, education, cultural activities—including naming streets, and so on. In Israeli terms, these Yemeni families are “blessed with many children”: the average number of children per family is 4.71. The immigrant generation generally chooses friends among fellow ethnics, the Israeli-born generation—in the schools, in its social life, and particularly, in many cases in choice of spouse—is living more up to the image of an integrated Israel.
