ABSTRACT

The immigrant generation, the marriage of a woman’s children also bears testimony to her success as a mother—it demonstrates that she has been capable of raising desirable brides and grooms. For Jewish immigrants and their children, indeed for all Israelis, the subject of intermarriage between eidot is loaded with ideology and prejudice. The immigrant generation, Derekh Erets appears to determine an individual’s conduct in one’s family and community. The immigrant and Israeli-born generation's days are full of activity: work, studies, housework, visiting friends and families, going to movies, and so on. There are subtle processes at work which force mothers to question their areas of competence as defined by Yemeni Jews. Being a mother in Israel, for women of the immigrant generation, have served in the army, often have a professional presence, and may have travelled the world. The wide majority of mothers in the immigrant generation are well-respected and well-liked; their efforts.
