ABSTRACT

The Soviet leadership is beginning to realize the extent to which the process of perestroika, or restructuring, is hindered by the widespread ignorance of the country’s own political traditions. The rediscovery of Russian religious thinkers of the early twentieth century can therefore be considered one of the most significant contributions of glasnos’ to the restructuring of Soviet society. The very fact that the generation of Russian intellectuals is turning to the legacy of Russian religious philosophy in its search for political and social alternatives to socialism, makes the study of the socio-political aspects of Russian religious philosophy particularly relevant. In number of journals have inaugurated new sections largely devoted to the legacy of Russian religious thinkers. Russian religious philosophy is attractive to Russian intellectuals today because it is seen as the last expression of a truly Russian national approach to politics.
