ABSTRACT

Mediation is a form of peaceful settlement procedure by which a third party is used by disputants in finding a solution to the dispute or to decrease the level of conflict. The aim of mediators is to reduce or to resolve conflict. Common to mediation is the acceptability of the role of the mediator by the partners in the conflict. The function of the mediator is to provide open communication channels, to change the images of the disputants of themselves and each other, and to provide additional ideas to enhance commonality of interest.
