ABSTRACT

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's explicit objective in Philosophy of Right was to systematically describe how the state of his time worked, more or less, to promote freedom. He also explicitly denied any reference to the future. Unlike monarchs, the feudal nobility has become irrelevant. The nobility, located in the House of Lords, played an important part in the mediation process for Hegel. The civil servants also played an important part in the mediating process. According to Hegel, their interest was in the universal, the wellbeing of the whole society. Consequently they promoted a universal consciousness in discussions with legislators. The continuing globalization of capitalism has weakened another source of community consciousness that Hegel emphasized, the family. Remember, for Hegel the family and the corporations were the two roots of the state as a community.
