ABSTRACT

Employment in construction, whether in Israel or the West Bank/ Gaza Strip area, has been considerable, especially since 1974. In the earlier years the proportion of investment in building and construction works of total fixed capital investment exceeded three quarters, but more recently it has been averaging around two thirds. The non-residential building and construction as a proportion of total investment in building and construction is an estimated 28 per cent, while in Israel the exceeds 42 per cent. In the absence of other information it may be concluded that non-residential construction lags far behind housing construction in the Territories or of non-residential construction in Israel. The supply of housing units during a given period of time is equal to the number of units at the beginning of the period plus the number of units completed during that period less the number of units depleted during that period.
