ABSTRACT

Learners are able to gain good ideas from others in groups. Since education in Namibia is based on a democratic pedagogy, a methodology which promotes learning through understanding and practice directed toward empowerment to shape the conditions of a learner's life, class activities such as group discussion should be applied in teaching. Group work enables learners to know one another, to make friends, and also to develop the sense of socialization. Learners were never given any chance to view their ideas about the lesson, but activities within lessons and group work are more recommended. An interview approach worked well with teachers because they could pose questions when they did not understand and the interviewer could extend questions for more information. The other teacher said that group work is good, but as far as a teaching and learning are concerned, group work needs full-capacity supervision and a thorough preparation by the teacher.
