ABSTRACT

Juan Domingo Peron was born on October 8, 1895, in the provincial town of Lobo in the province of Buenos Aires, about sixty miles south of the national capital. Juan Peron began his active military career at a time when Argentina was going through an important political change. This was a period in which the armed forces were generally subordinate to and respectful of the civilian government, playing no independent role in politics. The 1930 Revolution was of immense significance for the future of Argentina, and Juan Peron had an active although minor part in it. Upon returning to Argentina early in 1941, Colonel Juan Peron was assigned to work with the Argentine ski troops stationed at Mendoza in the Andean area. There he became involved in a very important extra-official activity, participation in the establishment of the Grupo de Oficiales Unidos.
