ABSTRACT

The literature search, applies to research projects requiring the identification and location of books and articles on a particular subject. An information search may require simple or elaborate search strategies, depending on the subject and the searcher's knowledge of library resources. A typical information search can be satisfied by consulting appropriate resources in the reference collection of German language student's library. A literature search, the third basic type of search, requires a relatively complex search strategy that often incorporates strategies for both known-item and information searches. A known-item search is always a necessary part of a literature search, making it possible to locate the materials identified in the search. The strategy for Information search would require German language students to consult indexes, abstracts, and bibliographies. The search strategy outlined for each of the basic types of searches represents only one possible search strategy, which German language students may want to modify or elaborate upon for a given search.
