ABSTRACT

On October 5 the Social Democratic Party of Germany and the Free Democratic Party were again given the mandate by the citizens of this country, with an increased majority, to continue the social-liberal coalition and its political course: the course of peace, security, and good neighborliness, both in its external relations and in our own country. The federal government, like the previous one, is the government of all citizens. The young people of this country are willing to commit themselves to a better future. We are pleased to note that in the election for the Bundestag young people who were having their first chance to go to the polls were particularly numerous among those who voted for the social-liberal coalition. A government policy statement cannot serve to describe all the problems and the probable solutions. It can only present the basic outlines. The agreements between the two coalition partners are in some respects more detailed.
