ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a number of guides to organizations working on women's issues or providing services to women. A comprehensive guide to organizations and services in all branches of the fine arts. Eight categories of services are listed in this directory: battered women and rape victim services; career counseling services; displaced homemaker programs; Planned Parenthood clinics; skilled trades training centers; women's centers; women's commissions; and women's health centers. Many maintain clipping files or small specialized libraries; many compile statistics and other data for their own purposes which they may be willing to share; most issue newsletters and leaflets. Remember, however, that the primary goal of most of the organizations is not to further scholarship, but to help women directly, through counseling, legislative lobbying, education, and other activities. Attention is focused on facts omitted from the standard college handbooks. There is information on women's studies courses, campus security, child care facilities, health services, faculty/student gender ratios, and more.
