ABSTRACT

The Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. (RurAL CAP) is an organization designed to eradicate the causes and conditions of poverty in rural Alaska, Carrying out that mandate requires a sensitivity to rural people and to the events which control their lives. In recognition of funding agencies problems, RurAL CAP has taken the lead in establishing the non-profit financial association. The RurAL CAP child development effort is committed to building strong family units throughout the state. More than any other single factor, the success of RurAL CAP can be attributed to the quality of the twenty-seven members of the Board of Directors. In order to facilitate its business, the board has established standing committees in program policy and planning, natural resources and subsistence, health, education and social services, and administration and finance. Rural Alaska Resources Association meets periodically to forge consensus positions on public policies related to natural resources.
