ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book reviews the legislative mandate for the Programme and the Copenhagen Conference, making reference to the relevant United Nations resolutions. It seeks to action at the national level, begins with a discussion of national targets and strategies for the full participation of women in economic and social development. The book discusses international and regional targets and strategies for the decade. Many of the priorities suggested for the global level of action are also stressed for regional programming. Again the need to recruit women into the higher levels of the administration of the regional commissions is emphasized. The Programme of Action was designed for the second half of the United Nations Decade for Women. States and international organizations are also called upon to integrate women into the decision-making structures of their institutions, especially those dealing with development.
