ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on agriculture and agro-industries and the relations to rural and urban centers, aiming to the differentiation of the various spatial levels of modernization. By its peculiar presence in the department, by its innovative proposals, by its entrepreneurial organization, and by its international reach, Cartellone is considered as a sign of functional forces and as a representative of the global attitude. It is one of the leading groups in the modernization process of Mendozas north oasis. In addition to strengthening its known capacity to generate employment, Cartellone could also extend its action to education, technical training, and to the promotion of the innovative spirit. Cartellone is a transformation pioneer because in some aspects it is many years ahead of the observed modernization process, apparently having been urged by external reason rather than by internal demands. Nevertheless, measured against the reference model, technological updating is only relative.
